The two new Audioquest interconnect cables Black Beauty and Pegasus are supposed to fill the spot the high-end cables of the Mythical Creatures series (ThunderBird, FireBird, Dragon), but adopt important technologies of these. The new cables are also supposed to work according to the "ZERO-Tech" principle, which is supposed to reduce noise by avoiding characteristic impedance in the cable. In contrast to the Mythical Creatures, however, they only consist of one cable strand per cable instead of multiple. Like the ThunderBird cable, they use "Perfect-Surface-Copper+" as conductive material, which is also supposed to dissipate noise; for the same purpose, the cables also carry "drain wires" with different silver contents.
The larger of the two new cables, Pegasus, has also inherited the 72V-DBS-pack – one for RCA and two packs in the XLR version – from the reference cables, which is supposed to further improve noise reduction. Furthermore, a mesh of carbon and graphene as well as copper-coated connector housings are used for this purpose, in addition to further insulation for the cables. This consists of polyethylene foam in the Black Beauty models and "Air Tubes" made of polypropylene in the Pegasus cables.
The two cables in Audioquest's new "Mythical Horses" series are scheduled to be available this year, and are listed with the following prices (Germany / USA), each for 1 meter:
- Audioquest Black Beauty RCA: around €870 / $800
- Audioquest Black Beauty XLR: around €1090 / $1000
- Audioquest Pegasus RCA: around €1700 / $1600
- Audioquest Pegasus XLR: around €2100 / $2000
