The well-established English analog audio manufacturer Goldring introduces the E4, the new top model in its affordable E-series of pickups. Designed as an upgrade for any modern budget or mid-range turntable, the E4 is said to represent the pinnacle of the line in terms of engineering and performance.
The distinctively shaped housing, with threaded inserts for the screws, features an aluminum cantilever that is hollow, aiming for a low moving mass. This carries an elliptically shaped diamond at its front tip, which is applied to the rod "naked", i.e. without anything additional.
To promote channel separation and thus spatiality and naturalness of reproduction, Goldring relies on its proven "Magnetic Duplex Technology" in the E4. In this, two low-mass magnets are positioned at the same angles as the coils so that each magnet interacts only with its respective partner coil, which the manufacturer says promotes precision. The E4 has a typical MM output voltage and is stated to work optimally at around 18 millinewtons of tracking force.
The Goldring E4, which is equipped with a needle guard, will be available in August at a price of just under €270 in Germany. A replacement needle insert, which also allows Goldring's smaller "E" cartridges to be upgraded, will cost about €190 in Germany.
