The English analog specialist Goldring recently presented the Eroica HX, the newest member in its moving coil cartridge family. As the successor to the award-winning H model of the Eroica range, this so-called "High Output" MC aims to make it easy to upgrade from an MM cartridge to a moving coil model. This stems from the fact that the Eroica HX provides a sufficient output voltage for the corresponding (MM) phono input, specified by the manufacturer at 2.5 millivolts at 1 kHz, 5 cm/sec.
In addition, as announced by Goldring, the Eroica HX carries a new pure-iron cross-armature design as well as ultra-fine enameled copper windings for higher performance and low crosstalk, a high-quality "Gyger II" diamond needle that is said to be able to pickup frequencies up to 50 kHz without distortion, and a housing made of the lightweight composite material "Pocan", which was selected for its "anti-coloration" properties. The Eroica HX is said to be compatible with all standard tonearms and will be available from mid-June for around 700 euros in Germany.
