After more than 40 years, the Thorens SoundWall models HP 360 and HP 380 get a successor: the HP 600, which radiates the entire sound as a dipole speaker – i.e. to the front and rear.
According to Thorens, the HP 600 interacts in a more predictable way with the acoustic conditions of the listening room throughout the entire frequency range. The SoundWall works together with modern living rooms, promise developer Joachim Gerhardt and Thorens CEO Gunter Kürten.
The SoundWall HP 600 is a three-way loudspeaker based on the open-baffle principle. All woofers and midrange drivers are mounted in a flat baffle to vibrate freely, meaning they have no enclosure or other damping material on their rear. The 12 woofers – per speaker – with a diameter of 15 cm per driver are complemented by two midrange drivers and two tweeters. Promised are high level stability, an open, airy sound and an efficiency of 95 dB with uncritical impedance, even for tube amplifiers.
The speakers weigh 40 kg each, and the price per pair is said to be around €22,000 in Germany. The dimensions are: (WxHxD) 60 x 125 x 16 cm.
