Originally, Audirvana specialized in the playback of local files via USB DACs, and the "DSD over PCM" (DoP) format has long been supported in this function. The player splits the DSD bit stream into small packets which make the USB transmission chain believe that it is PCM data. A suitable DAC recognizes the trick, unpacks the packets, and merges the content back into the original DSD data stream, which it then converts into a bit stream. In the current version 3.5.26 Audirvana now supports this function also when streaming over the home network to suitable network players who can do the DoP trick – however not the raw DSD format.
