Manufacturer closes after 100 years

Jelco closes Business

As Takako Ichikawa, President and CEO of Jelco's parent company Ichikawa Jewel Co., Ltd. announced in a mail to her distributors, Jelco will terminate business with immediate effect.

Ichikawa cites the consequences of the Corona pandemic as the ultimate reason for the closure. However, Jelco seems to have had problems with the maintenance of its obsolete machinery for some time, while, according to Ichikawa, another problem was the health restrictions of her aging skilled engineers.

From now on, neither new orders nor repairs will be accepted. Ichikawa expresses her gratitude for the long-standing support and loyalty of her partners and asks for their understanding.

The company is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and has been one of the most important manufacturers of high-quality, affordable tonearms, especially as an OEM supplier.
