The new 5000 series from English manufacturer Q Acoustics, set between the "Concept" product line and the 3000i speakers, includes stereo as well as home theater speakers, and wants to impress with modern technology. The series features two compact models, 5010 and 5020, with the 5010 being made for placement in a shelf, while the 5020 is designed for use on a stand. In addition, there are two differently sized floorstanding speakers – 5040 and 5050 – as well as the center speaker 5090.
Overall, the 5000 speakers are claimed to set new standards in this class. For that, Q Acoustics developed the "C3 Continuous Curved Cone" for the 15-centimeter bass/midrange driver in which the cone and surround form a particularly homogeneous shape, which is supposed to result in optimal dynamics and low distortion. The 25-millimeter tweeter, which is based on Concept technology, has been sealed against external pressure effects and, above all, suspended floating. According to the manufacturer, this effectively decouples the driver from the vibrations of the baffle.
The models of the 5000 series are available in matte white, matte black, rosewood and oak. The center speaker 5090 costs around €500*, the pair prices for the 5040, 5020 and 5010 are around €1300*, €800* and €650*, respectively, with no price being announced for the 5050 so far.
