The two two-way speakers that make up the Q Acoustics M20 active system are each driven by a 65-watt digital power amplifier. The 22mm tweeter is mechanically decoupled from the baffle, which is supposed to prevent vibrations from affecting the sound, while the 125mm mid/bass driver is supported by a bass reflex port on the back.
When connected to a computer via USB, the M20 offers playback in 24-bit/192 kHz Hi-Res audio quality. With the Bluetooth® 5.0 receiver, which promises a stable wireless connection, aptXTM HD technology ensures high-resolution audio streaming at up to 24-bit/48 kHz from any compatible Bluetooth® device. Thanks to an optical digital, AUX and analog RCA input, additional sources such as a TV or CD player can also be connected. In addition, the new active system has a subwoofer output for the connection of an active subwoofer.
The cabinets use Q Acoustics' proprietary P2PTM (Point to Point) bracing, which specifically stiffens parts of the cabinet that might generate unwanted vibrations. This is said to make the enclosure particularly stable, and prevent internal standing waves. The rounded contours of the cover grille, meanwhile, aim to improve the dispersion of high frequencies while keeping unwanted reflections to a minimum.
To allow the M20 speakers to be placed in different locations in the room, they can be specially configured: The active speaker with the integrated amplifier can thus be driven either as the left or right channel, so that it can be positioned near a power outlet. In addition, to allow the choice between placement in a corner, in front of a wall as well as freely in the room, an EQ switch controls the digital sound processors so that the speakers always have the optimal sound characteristics, according to the manufacturer. In addition, the M20 speakers can be set up with optionally available floor stands and wall mounts.
In Germany, the new Q Acoustics M20 music system is supposed to be available from September 2021 at an MSRP of around €500 at all authorized retailers.
