In a crisis, even bitter opponents work together: Google and Apple want to enable the development of apps that use Bluetooth to record contacts between devices of different operating systems. As a first step, a corresponding programming interface is to be published in May. The authorities can then make their certified apps available via the respective app stores, where users can download them – of course voluntarily. In a next step, Google and Apple want to work on a more comprehensive Bluetooth-based platform for contact measurements in the coming months, which will be integrated into the respective operating systems. Such a solution would be more reliable than a programming interface. The privacy and security of users is a top priority, and information about the joint work will be made transparent so that others can evaluate it, Google and Apple say in their similar publications.
