Monitor Audio's new Platinum 3G speaker generation is said to include many improvements, and is supposed to be released later this year – in celebration of the British manufacturer's 50th anniversary. In addition to the two floorstanding speakers Platinum 200 3G and 300 3G, the new series includes the standmount speaker Platinum 100 3G and the center speaker C250 3G. According to the manufacturer, one of the most important updates in the new series is the new generation of the "Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD III)" tweeter, which is supposed to offer lower distortion and flatten the frequency response. In addition, they feature an optimized waveguide, which is intended to improve efficiency, among other things.
Another change in the new Platinum 3G speakers is the "RDT III" cone, which is used in all woofers and midrange drivers. This three-layer membrane is said to provide high strength and light weight, among other benefits, and along with the improved surround, also minimize distortion. Furthermore, all new woofers carry new voice coils, which is said to result in greater control and broader dynamics of the bass range. The 200 3G and 300 3G floorstanders in the new Platinum Series also feature optimized midrange drivers: in addition to a more even transition area to the tweeter, Monitor Audio's "DCF" mechanism, larger magnets, and improved power handling, among other features, are said to further enhance performance. With a special midrange enclosure designed to reduce standing waves, the midrange is said to offer additional clarity. The C250 3G center also carries a new midrange driver, which Monitor Audio says is based on those used in the "Cinergy" home theater series.
Monitor Audio promises even more improvements in the new flagship series, such as improved and revised crossovers. The cabinet design is also said to aid in improving the sound, while alsio being low vibration thanks to aluminum driver surrounds and cantilever feet, among other features.
All speakers in Monitor Audio's new Platinum 3G series are scheduled to be available in Germany by the end of December 2022, in Black Piano Lacquer and Ebony Piano Lacquer finishes. The White Satin finish is expected to be available starting in March 2023. All following prices are for Germany. The standmount speakers Platinum 100 3G are said to cost about €5500 per pair, the center C250 3G about €4750 per unit. The smaller floorstanding speakers Platinum 200 3G are to come at a price of about €11,000 per pair, the flagship of the Platinum series, the floorstanding speakers 300 3G, at a price of about €14,000.
