New Streaming Amplifier from Marantz

With the new Model 40n, Marantz unveils an integrated streaming amplifier that is supposed to work as a versatile media center for modern as well as more traditional listeners.

Coming in the design of the "Model 30" integrated amplifier introduced in 2020 (reviewed by us here), Marantz is now launching the multimedia-oriented Model 40n, in which the "n" stands for network. The streaming amp, available in silver or black, is supposed to offer easy access to extensive music libraries and the like.

The basic idea is that listeners connect the Model 40n to their home network, attach speakers, and are immediately ready to listen to music. Integrated access to Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, TIDAL, TuneIn Internet Radio and many other services is supposed to make listening to music a breeze. The integrated amp is also capable of playing PCM files at up to 192 kHz/24 bits, as well as DSD files at up to 5.6 MHz from your own digital collection.

Thanks to the integrated "HEOS Built-in Technology", the 40n is also capable of receiving music via AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth in addition to playback via the HEOS app. The new Marantz also wants to score with a variety of analog and digital inputs. This even includes a phono MM preamp for turntables. Unusually for products in this category, there is an HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) input that allows TV sound to be played via the MODEL 40n. This ought to be especially interesting for TVs that have an integrated access to movie and streaming services. Users can also optimize bass response for any room via the dedicated subwoofer output with adjustable crossover.

The power of the newly developed Class A/B amplifier stage is stated to be at 2 x 100/70 watts (into 4/8 ohms). A large power transformer, four output transistors per channel, solid copper components and particularly short signal paths are said to keep internal impedance low and guarantee the amplifier's high-current capability. As a result, the MODEL 40n is said to perform exceptionally dynamically and drive even difficult speakers effortlessly. The sonic performance is also boosted by the well-known proprietary HDAMs (Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules) from Marantz, which are said to deliver high broadband response as well as naturalness.

The device is scheduled to be available from authorized Marantz retailers starting in March 2022* at a price of around 2500 euros*.
