From Center to Floorstander

New JBL HDI Speaker Series

The new JBL HDI series is composed of two floorstanding loudspeakers, a standmount loudspeaker, a center and a subwoofer.

The new loudspeaker series' flagships are the JBL HDI-3800 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeakers with three 8-inch woofers as well as the JBL HDI-3600 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker with three 6.5-inch woofers. In addition there is the compact JBL HDI-1600 2-way standmount model equipped with one 6.5-inch woofer, complemented by a 2.5-way center speaker with four 5.25-inch drivers and the HDI-1200 subwoofer with 12-inch driver and 1,000-watt amplifier.

The four full-range models in the HDI series are based on the patented JBL 2410H-2 compression driver as well as on research and applications derived from JBL Professional's D2 driver series, such as those used in the JBL M2 Studio Monitor. At the heart of the 2410H-2 driver is a lightweight, ring-shaped polymer diaphragm which is designed to optimise high frequency expansion by reducing the diaphragm mass. The V-shaped geometry of the ring diaphragm is intended to reduce break-up torque and reduce distortion.

The design is supposed to be perfectly matched to the patented HDI waveguide geometry, which according to the manufacturer should be able to deliver trebles with high dynamics and very precisely. Each HDI full-range model also features cast aluminum-framed woofers designed to deliver high output power with low distortion. The aluminum matrix cones are designed to ensure correct piston movement throughout the operating range. The active HDI subwoofer benefits from the same technical capabilities and features a high-density poly-Plas™ cone and a 3-inch voice coil.

All HDI Series enclosures are constructed of 0.75" MDF with a solid internal bracing. Rear-firing bass ports support the lower frequency range. The covers are magnetically attached.

Both the bookshelf and floorstanding loudspeakers have a high gloss black base integrated into the cabinet. The optionally available HDI-FS standmount for the compact HDI-1600 model is also supplied with a high gloss black base. Three finishes are available for all models: High gloss black lacquer, satin walnut veneer and satin grey oak veneer.

The JBL HDI series speakers are available immediately from authorised dealers*. Recommended retail prices range from EUR 850* for the shelf speaker JBL HDI-1600 to EUR 1,650* and EUR 2,200* for the floorstanding speakers JBL HDI-3600 and JBL HDI-3800. The center speaker JBL HDI-4500 is offered for about EUR 1,600*, the subwoofer HDI-1200 is listed at EUR 2,800*. Additionally, HARMAN offers the HDI-FS speaker stands at a pair price of 365 EUR*.
